Frosty Seymour Biking
Saturday late Morning – a crew of us decided to go for a ride in the lower Mt Seymour Conservation Area/Reserve – which is about a km or two from my place. Mt Seymour is one of three mountains on the North Shore which has a skifield! But thats another story i guess….
Anyways – Didier, Michael, Meryn, Andrew, Tom and I went for a good couple of hours, round some nice techo uphills, and fast flowing very short xc downhills – very similar to Mt Victoria in Wellington actually… some dirt, and some speed…
Nothing too major to report, except that in one of the valleys it was uber-frosty. Check it out.
Yeah, all the wee trees/bushes were white and pretty picturesue.
Heres a pic of the trail, and Tom ’sitting out’ of the 10 minute scientific discussion/debate/benefit-cost analysis on how “ground ice strings” in the puddle we had found were formed…… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice
They were pretty long, about 50 mm high in some places, and in two separate phases we concluded……
Not too many pics this time – was a good stroll in and around the park – Didier in the Yellow, Meryn in the Red.
Oh yeah, i forgot to mention – i tried to ride my bike onto an iced-over puddle/mini-lake.. and lost the front and rear completely!.. and spun myself 180!… the ice didn’t break, cos it was over a couple of inches thick!
So – all in all, it is fairly cold here again (after the Pineapple Express has passed). Pineapple express is a local term for some warm weather/rain after is has been cold/snowing etc… all bad for the local ski-hills!…. lows of around -4 in town, -6 in north Van… highs of 2 during the day…. a bit cooler than NZ anyways… nothing like what we are in for over christmas in the interior BC/Fernie… they are already experiencing -20 on a regular basis….
should be interesting at that temp!… i think the only time i’ve been around that cold is at the International Antarctic Centre at Chch international Airport… should be fun.
